Building Schools for the Future: Next Steps

The DCSF have now announced a revised national programme for BSF, and there are two 'waves' for the Royal Borough. The first wave concentrates on the five secondary schools in Maidenhead, whilst the second will focus on the middle and upper schools in Windsor, and the secondary schools in Ascot and Datchet/Wraysbury.

Nationally, there are 70 local authorities with projects in the first wave and as the government are prioritising on social and educational need, the Royal Borough is near the bottom of the list in the first wave. This means that it is very unlikely that the Royal Borough will be invited to join the BSF programme in 2009/10, but it is possible that the DCSF will ask us to join in 2010/11.

The Royal Borough is, however, taking advantage of this later start to prepare in depth for the BSF programme, with an initial focus on Maidenhead. Over the next year the borough will be working closely with schools and other interested parties to develop specific proposals for improvements to our schools. If these improvements require changes to the number, type, size or location of schools in Maidenhead, then we will carry out a new consultation with pupils, parents, staff and governors.
