The Royal Borough has undertaken consultation on new designated areas for the five secondary schools in Maidenhead. The outcome of that consultation is included in the analysis document below (see pages 7 to 12). Following consideration of the responses made during the consultation the Royal Borough's Cabinet decided, on 26 March 2009, to adopt Option 2, with effect from September 2010.
Option 2 means that all the Maidenhead area would be in the designated area for a single-sex school, a co-educational Church of England school and a co-educational community school. This would be done by extending the designated areas of Altwood, Desborough and Newlands Girls' Schools to cover the whole of the Maidenhead area. The designated area for Cox Green School would be extended to serve Maidenhead (and surroundings) south of the A4, while Furze Platt Senior School would serve north of the A4.
This would be a significant change to the existing arrangements and would mean that all children would live in the designated areas of both single-sex and co-educational schools.
