ECOLFS Frequently Asked Questions

EcoLfS - The objective of the Borough's Learning for Sustainability Strategy 2008 – 2014 is to develop a culture of Learning for Sustainability, hence 'LfS'. However, 'Eco' is another matter …

The prefix is used for words such as ecology, ecosystem and economics and is derived from the ancient Greek for 'hearth' or home. The one home that we are all depend on is the Earth. Unfortunately, we still do not know how to manage ourselves in a way which will ensure that the quality of human life on Earth can improve long into the future. If we are not learning for sustainability we are putting at risk the very basis of our human existence. This is why our logo is made up of the combination of EcoLfS and the first ever photographic image of the Earth as a whole sphere (taken by the Apollo 17 astronauts as they left earth orbit en route to the Moon, Dec. 7, 1972).
