Equality Impact Assessments

Equality Impact Assessments (EQIAs) are a tool that the Council uses to make sure that it treats everyone fairly.  They are a way to make sure that individuals and teams think carefully about the likely impact of their work on the community and take action to improve services, policies and projects, where appropriate.

EQIAs focus on assessing and recording the likely impact of a service, policy or project.  This involves anticipating the consequences of policies and projects on different groups of people to make sure that, as far as possible, any negative consequences are removed and opportunities for promoting equality are maximised.

The Council looks at the areas of age, disability, gender, race, religion and belief and sexual orientation when conducting the assessments.  The EQIAs are carried out alongside other planning and research and are a legal requirement.

The Council prioritises the way that it complete EQIAs, and will focus on the most relevant areas first.  It will carry out new EQIAs each month and we will update these pages regularly.
