The results of the authority's first Comprehensive Performance Assessment regrading were published in 2002 and were the first ever overall inspection of local authorities and how they work. Carried out by the Audit Commission, it examined the way county and unitary councils are run and looked at the performance of seven core services, using a points system to give an overall score. Unfortunately at that time the Royal Borough was rated as 'Weak'.
Subsequently, due to an enormous amount of hard work and dedication by all those involved in delivering the services we provide - by staff, Members and our partners - the Royal Borough has improved its rating to 'Good' - bypassing 'Fair' completely.
