Consultation

Welcome to the Royal Borough's Consultation Webpage

We strongly believe that the views of local people should inform the decisions we take, and be at the heart of the policies we develop.  Consultation provides us with the information to respond to the needs and priorities of people living, working and visiting the Royal Borough.

In all our work in this area we strive to ensure that our consultation activities:

  • are a fundamental part of the Council's work
  • are based on openness, trust, integrity and mutual respect for all participants
  • are used to seek the public's view before decisions are made
  • seek to involve all parties who can contribute to or are affected by the outcome of consultation
  • make sure that people understand why and what they are being consulted about and how their views will be taken into any decision
  • make specific efforts to identify and target people who are less able to participate
  • seek to ensure clear, mutual understanding of the issues, objectives, purpose, time scale and expectations
  • provide results of consultations and their impact on Council decisions in the most appropriate form to both
  • consultees and the wider community

Most importantly, we will ensure that the results of consultation are fed into policy development and service delivery, enabling the Council to ascertain and achieve local priorities.

We look forward to developing our consultation work further to encourage greater public participation in local affairs and ensure that decisions are taken in an open, honest and accountable way.
