Watch, Wait and Wonder Project

Mother and childFor parents and their infants (aged 9-15 months)

All parents will have worries and concerns from time to time about the wellbeing of their child.

Common parent concerns may include:
Feeding or sleeping problems, aggressive or over-active behaviour, fussiness and difficulty being soothed, clinginess and difficulty separating, knowing what the infant wants, worries about bonding or attachment and fear of harming the child.

If any of these apply to you and your infant you may be referred for the Watch Wait and Wonder Project.

What will happen next?

After your health visitor refers you, one of the project workers will contact you and complete developmental and parenting questionnaires. Then, you will be offered three assessment sessions.

What is Watch Wait and Wonder?

Watch Wait and Wonder is a play based intervention. The carer and the child are invited to attend up to 15 sessions at their local Childrens' Centre where a space is made for the carer and infant to play. The sessions are held at the same time each week and last one hour.

The first half an hour consists of infant-led play. The carer follows the child's lead and is encouraged to watch, wait and wonder. The therapist sits to one side and also watches waits and wonders.

The second half an hour is time for the carer to talk about what they have observed during their child's play session.
