Braywick Youth Groups

Encounter the natural world in Braywick Park with the RBWM Countryside Rangers with our year-round activities for all youth groups including Scouts, Cubs, Beavers, Guides, Brownies and Rainbows. Sessions can help with badges such as Friend to Animals, Naturalist, Wildlife Explorer, Out & About and Outdoor Challenge. Sessions are very popular so do book early!

Earthwalks

(all year round)
This sensory nature walk uses simple props and immerses your group in a stimulating and creative encounter with the natural world. For further information see Earthwalks in the related links on the right hand side of this page

Minibeast Safaris

(April to October)
Discover the difference between crickets and grasshoppers and explore for animals that live under logs and inside leaves. For further information see Minibeast Safaris in the related links on the right hand side of this page.

Night Walks

(all year round)
Develop night walk skills and discover the secrets of night-time wildlife as dusk falls over Braywick Park.

Pond Dipping

(April to September)
Watch dragonflies hunt among the reeds or tadpoles feeding on the pondweeds.

Wildlife Quiz Trails

(all year round)
Use special trail maps to hunt for wildlife picture quizzes, groups learn about the diversity of wildlife that lives in Braywick Park.

Bat Watching

(May to October)
Using torches and bat detectors groups can see and hear bats hunting among the trees and over the fields of Braywick Park.

Orienteering

(all year round)
Learn or develop map and compass skills by exploring the trails, paths and wildlife habitats of Braywick Park.

Birds

(all year round)
Learn what birds need to survive, and make bird feeders or winter roosts from recycled materials.

In addition to the range of environmental activity sessions above Braywick can offer tailored sessions to meet the particular needs of your group. Perhaps they are working on a specific badge or award such as a Naturalist or Global Conservation badges, or Bird Watcher, Conservation, Discoverer, Friend to Animals or Seasons Badges. Current charges for Ranger-led activity sessions range from £2.40 - £3 per child (£40 minimum). To discuss and specific requirements, tailored sessions or to book any of these activities please contact the Countryside Service on 01628 777440 or email bnc@rbwm.gov.uk

For older youth groups the Countryside Service may also be able to offer involvement in practical conservation tasks on local wildlife sites. Contact the Senior Countryside Ranger on 01628 777440.

The Countryside Service and local volunteers also run an environmental youth group, Braywick Watch Group, which is based at the Nature Centre. The group is open to children aged 7-12 years but there is a waiting list for children wishing to join. To find out more, contact us on 01628 777440.
