Benefit Fraud: Frequently Asked Questions
What happens to people who have been caught?
The Government, the Benefits Agency, the Police and the Courts
take benefit fraud very seriously. Around 10,000 people are
prosecuted and convicted every year for benefit fraud offences.
However, not all cases go to Court. Others may receive benefit
penalties or formal cautions. In addition, people must repay
the full amount they received from benefits that had been
claimed fraudulently.
