Changes in your Circumstances

If you are already in receipt of housing benefit, council tax support or second adult rebate and your circumstances change, you must inform us immediately. This is because any changes in your circumstances may affect the amount of benefit you are entitled to.

Some examples of major change that will affect your benefit entitlement:

  • Changes in the number of people living in your home (i.e. new baby, lodger).
  • Any changes to yours or your partners income, the source and or amount. Even changing from one benefit to another.
  • You stop receiving Income Support.
  • Changes in the circumstances of people living with you (i.e. children leaving school, starting work).
  • Increase or decrease in the amount of capital or savings that you have.

If you do not tell us about these changes, you may find that you have been receiving too much benefit and we will seek to recover this money from you. On the other hand, by not informing us of a change in your circumstances you could also lose out on benefit, by not receiving the full amount that you are entitled to.

To inform us of a change in your circumstances please do one of the following immediately.
