Building Control - Works without Approval Frequently Asked Questions

Councils have powers of enforcement seperate from the Regularisation Application process. You should not assume that applying for Regularisation will make you safe from enforcement, although enforcement is unlikely where you gain a Regularisation Certificate.

  1. Can I get previously unauthorised building work regularised?
  2. What happens if I do work without approval?
  3. What is a Regularisation Application?
  4. What do I need, in order to sell my house?
  5. When can it be made?
  6. How much does an application cost?
  7. What about enforcement?
  8. Who enforces the Building Regulations?
  9. Why don't I just do the work without telling you, and then apply for Regularisation if I get found out?
  10. What do I do now?
