The Guides

In response to customer requests, we have developed a Technical Matters series of advice notes on the technical requirements of the Building Regulations, whilst our Customer Guides series helps to explain various aspects of the Building Control process and respond to frequently asked questions.

Building Regulation Explanatory Booklets (Pdf copies)

CLG has an Explanatory Booklet on the Building Regulations giving information and useful sources of information to help you through the Building Regulation process. A guide to the Party Wall Act is also available to help offer advice on the processes and procedures necessary if your project falls within the requirements of the Act.

Accessibility by Design

Our Accessibility by Design guide helps to provide design advice and guidance to the requirements of Part M, which deals with the accessibility of buildings. The guide now includes advice on the relevant issues dealing with the design of the Means of Escape within buildings.

The Customer Guide Downloads

All our Guides are available to download and print to help ease you through the Building Regulation process.

Customer Guide 1 provides an introduction to the Building Regulations and when permission is required.
Customer Guide 2 provides you with guidance on the alternative Full Plans and Building Notice application processes available.
Customer Guide 3 explains those particular works which are exempt from the requirement to submit a Building Regulation application.
Customer Guide 4 will give advice on the Regularisation Application procedure, which is available if you have undertaken works without first submitting a Building Regulation application.
Customer Guide 5 gives guidance on how you may approach converting your garage for habitable purposes. Please also see our Technical Matters 5 which will also help by providing technical guidance.
