Other Work Charges

Your quick reference guide

Charges for all other works including dwellings over 300sqm, domestic extensions and garages exceeding 40m2 and non domestic schemes are based on the estimated cost of the work and are set out in Table C, Category 14 of our General Guide to Charges. Please see our Charges page or our online calculator for Table C.

This would include :-

  • Alteration works to any type of building
  • New buildings for Industrial, Retail or Commercial use
  • Extensions to Industrial, Retail or Commercial buildings

If the estimated cost of the work exceeds £70,000, please contact us direct, either by telephone on 01628 796870 or alternatively email us at; building.control@rbwm.gov.uk

The length and nature of the plan checking process, as well as the number and complexity of statutory and routine progress site inspections, will usually increase as a direct result of the size and complexity of the scheme, for example fire safety checks and requirements, disabled access and facilities, and building services inspections. The level of charges will therefore increase proportionally, as fairer recognition of the greater involvement of Building Control, through both the plan checking and site inspection process.

For comparison purposes, the estimated cost of works for particular building uses, will be determined by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors Building Cost Information Service.

This provides an indication of the construction costs where a detailed estimate cannot be provided. These rates should be used for calculating Building Regulation Charges. These rates are regularly reviewed and updated.
