Do I need approval to make internal alterations to my house?

Yes, if your project will involve alterations to the structure of the building ( e.g. the removal or part removal of a load bearing wall, joist, beam or chimney breast ); will affect escape or other fire precautions either inside or outside the building; any work to a thermal element of the building ( e.g. replacement of an existing floor, roof covering, re-plastering or re-rendering ), or will affect access or facilities for disabled people ( e.g. removal of a w.c, altering floor/ access levels ).
