Do I need approval to convert my garage into a habitable room?
Yes, even if it is only a store or hobbies room. A Customer
Guide is available on our Customer Guide web page. The
appropriate requirements of the regulations will be applied so
as to ensure that, for example, the existing accomodation is
brought up to the standard required for habitable use. This
will include thermal and sound insulation, structural
alterations to create new openings and the infill of the
existing garage door opening, as well as the adequacy of the
existing foundations to carry any increased loading.
