Horton and Wraysbury ward councillor Colin Rayner has been named as Deputy Mayor-Elect of the Royal Borough for 2011/12.
He will work throughout the year to support the new Mayor, Cllr Asghar Majeed, and both will be confirmed in their new roles at the council's annual meeting on Tuesday 24 May.
Cllr Rayner, currently Cabinet Member for Highways and Streetcare, was elected to the borough council in 2005. Since then he has served on a wide range of committees and panels, including Windsor Development Control, Windsor Town Forum, the Crime and Disorder Forum and as chairman of both Windsor Town Partnership and the Royal Borough's Flood Group. He has held his Cabinet post for the past four years.
Cllr Rayner said he was very conscious of the responsibilities of his new office. He added: "During my six years as a councillor I have enjoyed serving the residents of Horton and Wraysbury and my role as Cabinet member for Highways and Streetcare. What a great place the Royal Borough is!
"As Deputy Mayor I am being given a wonderful opportunity to work with and for the borough in a very different and valuable way. I am thrilled by the prospect of serving the community and look forward to the year ahead."
A working farmer in the family business based in Horton, Cllr Rayner and his wife, Samantha, have three children - 13-year-old triplets, Alice, Isabelle and Victoria. Mrs Rayner will be the Deputy Mayoress.
The council's annual meeting will be held on Tuesday 24 May in the Desborough Suite of the Town Hall, starting at 7.30pm.
