The Michael Shanly Group announced on 31st July 2009 that it would be going ahead with the remediation of the Badnell's Pit site by implementing the planning permission granted by the Secretary of State on 11th May 2006. The decision can be downloaded below.
What's happening on the site at the moment?
The waste material has now been removed. The period of October - December 2011 will see
· clean material continuing to be brought in and compacted;
· a period of continued monitoring to ensure the works have been successful in removing contamination;
· the controlled breaking of the bentonite wall in key locations surrounding the site to allow the natural groundwater levels to return; and
· the removal of the site compound, offices, road and lagoons.
The site has planning permission to have houses built on it, but the developer has not yet confirmed when these works will start.
