Joseph was one of two sons of William Isaac and Annie Springford. His brother was called Isaac. We know that Joseph was baptised 6th January 1889 in Eton and on the 1911 Census he was employed as a stable helper.
Joseph may have emigrated to Canada as he volunteered with the Canadian Forces. He was serving with 17th Battalion of the Sherwood Foresters when he was wounded in France. He was buried at St Sever Cemetery Extension, Rouen.
