Police and Crime Commissioner election 2024

An election for the Police and Crime Commissioner for the Thames Valley will take place on Thursday 2 May 2024. 

The Chief Executive of West Berkshire Council has been appointed as the Police Area Returning Officer (PARO) for the Thames Valley and will be responsible for co-ordinating the elections across the Local Authorities in the Thames Valley.

After Monday 8 April the list of candidates will be published and you will be able to visit from Wednesday 10 April www.choosemypcc.org.uk to see details of the candidates and their election address.  If you are unable to go online you can ask for this information to be posted to you by calling 0300 131 1323.

Significant dates for candidates and electors

The nomination period for candidates - Monday 25 March 2024 to Friday 5 April 2024 - 10am to 4pm.

The list of candidates standing will be published by 5pm on Monday 8 April 2024.

Applications to register to vote (if you are not already registered) must reach the Electoral Registration officer by midnight on Tuesday 16 April 2024.  Applications can be made online at gov.uk/register-to-vote.

New applications to vote by post or amendments to existing absent vote arrangements must reach the Electoral Registration Officer by 5pm on Wednesday 17 April 2024. New applications can be made online at gov.uk/apply-postal-vote  

The initial batch of postal ballots will be posted out on Thursday 18 April 2024. If you had a postal vote in place by Tuesday 2 April 2024 your pack should be in this batch. If you applied to vote by post after this date and before 5pm on Wednesday 17 April your postal ballot will be sent out between Friday 19 April and Thursday 25 April.

Applications for a Voter Authority Certificate or an Anonymous Elector's Document valid for this election must reach the Electoral Registration Officer by 5pm on Wednesday 24 April 2024. Applications can be made online at the GOV.UK website. 

New applications to vote by proxy must reach the Electoral Registration Officer by 5pm on Wednesday 24 April 2024. Applications can be made online at gov.uk/apply-proxy-vote.

Candidates must supply to the Police Area  Returning Officer their list of Polling Agents, Counting Agent and sub-agents on Thursday 25 April at the latest.

Polling day is Thursday 2 May 2024 and the polling stations are open from 7am to 10pm.
