Application for a Blue Badge Online Form

Please read the information below before making your application.

Eligibility Criteria

The Blue Badge Scheme is intended to apply only to those people with a permanent disability and who have severe mobility problems. The eligibility criteria is divided into two categories - automatic and discretionary.

Automatic criteria are:

  • A person who is registered blind
  • A person in receipt of Disability Living Allowance Higher Rate Mobility Component
  • A person in receipt of a vehicle supplied by the Department of Social Security
  • A person in receipt of a Government grant towards their own vehicle
  • A person in receipt of a War Pensioner's Mobility Supplement

Disability Living Allowance (DLA) - Higher rate mobility component

All applicants who are aged under 65 should normally be in receipt of this allowance.

If you are under 65, and have chosen not to apply for DLA, you will need to provide additional supporting information that confirms your degree of disability would meet the criteria for DLA.

A person who is not in receipt of Higher Rate Mobility DLA, and who does not have the walking difficulties normally necessary to qualify for a badge, who will not be eligible.

Are you/the applicant registered Blind under the National Assistance Act 1948? *
You will need to be registered with the Local Health Authority under the National Assistance Act 1948 to qualify for a blue badge. You will need to visit your GP for a referral to an Opthalmic Consultant before you can apply for a Blue Badge.
Do you/the applicant receive Mobility Allowance or the higher rate of the mobility component of the Disability Living Allowance? *
Please be aware that you will need to supply us with evidence (eg an official letter confirming an award of the allowance). Please note that Severe Disablement Allowance, Attendance Allowance or Care Allowance do not qualify.
Do you/the applicant receive a War Pensioner's Mobility Supplement? *
Please be aware that you will need to supply us with evidence (eg An official letter confirming an award of a War Pensioner's Mobility Supplement).
