Working together
Children and young people services are made up of several different organisations that work together to provide the best outcomes for children. We continually are supporting the development of the workforce across children services and outlined here are just a few of the initiatives that are improving life for children and young people.
All new employee's of children services will receive a common induction and will have the chance to meet new starter's from across the various agencies. It is important that people working in children services have an understanding of the many services on offer and are supported from day one to work and development together.
The Common Assessment Framework (CAF) provides a structured way for all services to support a child or young person's needs. This framework has been rolled out across children services in the Borough and will support tackling problems children or young people may be facing before they escalate.
Research is underway to look at developing new roles within children services. These roles will embrace the notion that there should be one seamless service for children, regardless of it being a health, social care or educational service.
Qualifications attained across the different areas of children services are being mapped together in order to support people moving from one role to another more easily. This is known as the Integrated Qualification Framework and will be rolled out nationally in 2009.
The National vision for leadership in children's services, which was consulted on in the spring of 2007, is to have:
"Resilient, well-informed, creative and innovative leaders with the requisite skills, knowledge and experience to ensure the effective delivery of integrated provision for children, young people and families at the local level".
Although these attributes might be most visible in senior leaders, they apply equally to all members of the workforce who are in leadership positions or exercising leadership functions. Across the Borough we are providing development opportunities for the Leaders of today and tomorrow.
Attached below are the Leadership competencies and behaviours for people working with children across the Borough. This document acts as an overarching competency framework for integrated working environments and situations.
