Frequently Asked Questions
I have heard that the death in service benefit is increasing
From 1 April 2008 the tax-free lump sum payable on your death in service, known as a "death grant", increased from two times to three times your annual pensionable pay. If you are part-time this is three times your actual part-time pay.
The LGPS allows you to say whom you would want any death grant to be paid to by completing an 'expression of wish' form which is available in the Death Benefits section of this website.
The Scheme's administering authority, however, retains absolute discretion when deciding to whom any death grant is payable.
