New to the LGPS?

Welcome to the Berkshire Pension Fund




















If you have recently become a member of the Local Government Pension Scheme within Berkshire you will shortly be receiving a Welcome Pack confirming your admittance to the scheme.

What does my Welcome Pack contain?

Your Welcome Pack will contain the following leaflets and scheme guides covering everything you need to know about the Local Government Pension Scheme.

A Guide for New Employees

Expression of Wish for Payment of Death Grant

Nominating your Co-habiting Partner for a Survivor's Pension

Increasing your Pension Benefits

Impact of Working Part-Time

Protection for your Family

Making Contributions following a period of Absence

Civil Partnerships and your Pension


Enclosed with your welcome pack will be a statutory notification to confirm the date you commenced contributions with the LGPS and the employment details which we hold for you.

How Much Will I pay?

The amount of contribution that you pay is determined by how much you earn as assessed by your employer and in accordance with the following tables:

The contribution bands for 1st April 2010 to 31st March 2011 will be:

The salary bands will now increase each year in line with the Consumer Prices Index (CPI). The contribution bandings for the 2011/2012 tax year are as follows and are effective from 1st April 2011 until 31st March 2012:

If you work part-time, when determining which rate you should pay, your employer will have to consider the level of earnings that you would have received had you been an equivalent full-time employee.

If you are contracted to work term-time only, when determining which rate you should pay, your employer will have to consider the level of earnings that you would have received had you been employed on a full-time basis but only during term-time.
